“Idhar Udhar” (translates to “here and there” in Hindi) is a project exploring counter factual history, an attempt to answer the question “What would Indian culture look like if India had never been colonised?” The outcome is a reimagined publication set in this world, a version of a magazine or zine reflecting parts of the culture of this alternate reality.
I created different characters and narratives as a vessel for the cultural norms and standards that I believe would be in place in an India untouched by colonisation.
I explored cultural figures- a musician and a public figure, as well as a “self care” piece exploring the norms around beauty, health and community
