"chai tea", 2022

“Chai Tea” is an illustrated narrative exploring the impact of migration on culture and identity. I aimed to tell the story of South Asian migrants in the UK and how they craft an identity informed by both where they come from and where they currently live. The seamless coexistence of traditional and modern symbols contradicts the idea that there is a crisis of identity, instead proving the creation of a hybrid culture over time. This object serves as a reflection on what it means to be a migrant in the 21st century in a globalised world.
